The legendary book and blockbuster movie Dune being inspired by magic mushrooms; Will Smith coming out about his life-changing experience with ayahuasca; and Elon Musk speaking about the psychedelics and their future role in our society.
Now we have rap/pop star Lil Nas X telling the world that psychedelic mushrooms helped in the creation of his latest album “Montero.”
Reported in the Wall Street Journal Magazine’s latest Innovators issue, Lil Nas X says that “a pivotal moment in the process was trying psychedelic mushrooms for the first time.”
“I was able to open up a lot … I was able to write actual stories about my life and put it into my music. I actually did that for the first time.”

And it seems like the renaissance in psychedelic medicine — with an emphasis on proper therapeutic settings rather than non-intentional recreational tripping — is seeping into mainstream and personal protocols.
WSJ writer Myles Tanzer reports that producers David Biral and Denzel Baptiste were there to help guide the artist through his journey: “Baptiste and Biral sat by Nas’ side sober and talked to him throughout the day, occasionally taking dips in the pool and hot tub but not working on any music, just reflecting on life.”
That’s some legit set and setting, Lil’ Nas.
With over 60 million listeners on Spotify, this admission of psilocybin’s benefits will likely be another important catalyst in this new wave of psychedelic acceptance by the mainstream.
