This week’s Psychedelic Titan is Boaz Wachtel, Founder & Executive Chairman of Ibogacine.
What’s this article series about? Psychedelic Titans is a get-to-know-you-style blog series interviewing some of the psychedelic industry’s most influential and impactful individuals.
When did you first become involved in the psychedelic industry and why?
I worked with the founder of the Ibogaine movement the late Howard Lotsof since 1988 (NYC) as an operative, strategic advisor, medic and treatment provider in NL, Panama and IL to 100 hard-core drug abusers. Wrote with Lotsof the first treatment manual 2003. Been involved ever since also co- founder of Gita – International alliance of Ibogaine treatment providers. Frequent lecturer on Ibogaine.
Do you, or have you taken, psychedelic substances?
Iboga once provided by Howard Lotsof.
What’s your favourite psychedelic compound?
Ibogaine.
Do your parents/family members know what you’re doing?
My family knows about what I’m building and fully supports it ever since helping to legalize medical marijuana in Israel in 1995 and treating 100 people with ibogaine. My wife and kids have always championed my work.
Have you had an experience with mental health/chronic pain?
No.
What’s your vision of the industry in 20 years?
High safety standards, proper screening set and settings and after care by professionals.
What are your biggest worries for the industry?
Greed, amateurish approach, overzealously, false claims.
Who are your heroes?
The late Howard Lotsof, Norma Lotsof and Bob Sisko – They are the founders of the Ibogaine movement and I feel very much obliged to support Norma Lotsof and Bob Sisko at their old age and give back to the Bwiti people in Gabon that gave the Gift of Iboga to the world.
If you could create a psychedelic to do anything you wanted, what would it do?
Enlighten people about the preciousness of life and the environment. Spirituality for me is spiritual work, not just talking – taking care of others in need. Ibogaine provides focus on what’s important and what’s not in life. That puts everything in perspective.
We’d like to thank Boaz for being a part of the Psychedelic Titans series. Stay tuned for more profiles on leaders in the psychedelic industry.
