New Georgia Bill Proposal Would Create Psychedelic Study Committee
This week in Georgia a group of bipartisan state politicians filed a resolution asking for the formation of a committee to investigate the therapeutic potential of psychedelics.
The goal of the study would be to make recommendations for reforms, and the resolution speaks of the pressing need to find new treatments for PTSD for veterans and other mental health issues like depression.
If passed, the committee would be a mix from both parties, including high-ranking members like the chair of the Defense and Veterans Committee and members of the Department of Veterans Affair. This mix of officials, in a conservative state like Georgia, shows how quickly stigmas are changing.
Republican Lawmaker Files Bill to Decrim Psychedelics
Earlier this week a Republican lawmaker in Missouri proposed a bill to legalize psychedelics. Happening again in a pretty conservative state, the legislation would make it legal to use psychedelics for therapeutic use at designated care facilities.
This is a bigger move than other recent proposals, going as far as decriminalizing possession in low-levels and providing legal protections to doctors who recommend “natural medicine”.
“no state agency or regulatory board shall revoke, fail to renew, or take any other action against a physician’s license…based solely on the physician’s recommendation to an eligible patient regarding treatment with natural medicine.” Very cool that they’re starting to use this language.
