Dr. Dennis McKenna to Host Historic Livestream Psychoactive Symposium
On the 55th-year anniversary of the original program presented by the United States government in 1967, the McKenna Academy of Natural Philosophy hosts its first Ethnopharmacologic Search for Psychoactive Drugs (ESPD55) event on May 23-26th, 2022. Viewed by hundreds of thousands when it was held in 2017 (ESPD50), this year’s event is carefully curated by Dr. Dennis McKenna and includes over 30 sessions exploring the potential of ethnopharmacology for humanity.
Livestreams will span a four-day program organized by life-centric themes or Spheres: ARCHAEOSPHERE, ETHNOSPHERE, FAUNASPHERE, HYDROSPHERE, MYCOSPHERE, NEUROSPHERE, PHYTOSPHERE, SOCIOSPHERE, SONOSPHERE. Esteemed speakers include Monica Gagliano, Mark Plotkin, Elaine Elisabetsky, Andrew Weil, Wade Davis, Paul Stamets and David Nutt. They will be joined by other innovators convening in the UK at St. Giles House in Dorset. Topics on the program include how psychedelics can change the future of mental health therapy, how ancestral knowledge can inform scientific discovery, what sustainability means to plant medicines, and other relevant areas in psychoactive study.
The Academy will also premiere its first documentary: BioGnosis: Bridges to
Ancestral Wisdom. The film follows an Academy project to preserve precious and therapeutic plants at risk of extinction at a vital facility in the jungles of Peru. Called the Herbarium Amazonense, it not only houses close to 160K specimens, they’re all being digitized to serve generations to come.The symposium begins at 09:00 on the 23rd of May and finishes at 20:00 on the 26 of May (GMT).
